Keeble Collective (KC, formerly Ad Hoc Collective) was founded in 2004 by Andrea Keeble and Helen Mountfort to enable their own compositions to be performed and to experiment in the creative process in music composition. Andrea continues to direct KC that has developed into a body of Melbourne musicians, composers and educators dedicated to performing and teaching original, new and improvised music. KC has performed a range of concerts, workshops, projects and commissions.
KC accompanied Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu at the Merepin Arts Festival, Daly River, NT (2008) including a support set of original repertoire by AHC (string quartet) featuring Andrea Keeble and Sue Simpson (violins), Errki Veltheim (viola) and Helen Mountfort (cello).
In 2013, Andrea was commissioned to compose a work for KC in collaboration with local singer Freya Josephine Hollick for the Festival of Slow Music (Ballarat). ‘Suite Actuality’ was presented as a work-in-progress workshop. Two years later, the complete seven movement work for string quartet (with double bass), visuals (by Dotahn Caspi and vocalist (Carolyn Connors) was featured as the FoSM finale performance. This work has since been performed with the additions of percussion.
KC collaborated with percussionist and educator, Erica Rasmussen in the series of “Paint What You Hear” painting workshops for children at Woodford Folk Festival (Qld), ArtPlay, Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital and Heide Gallery. This workshop project culminated in a performance series for adults at 45 Downstairs.
In 2018, KC performed Sydney composer Andrée Greenwell’s GOTHIC for string quartet, two vocalists, guitar, sound effects and visuals at Riverside, Parramatta, and The Melbourne Arts Centre.
KC recorded Andrea’s album “Congratulations” at the Salon, Melbourne Recital Centre. It was performed and launched at the Church of All Nations in Dec 2017. It recorded Andrea’s debut album “Teeter” at 3MBS in 2011.
KC has collaborated with community orchestras Resonance Orchestra (Woodford, Vic) and Squawkestra in creative workshops and performances. KC continues to present workshops and performances in composition (for string quartet) at Melbourne Polytechnic.
